A negotiation model for autonomous computational agents: Formal description and empirical evaluation

چکیده
Autonomous agents are being used in an increasing number of applications. The agents operate in complex environments and, over time, conflicts inevitably occur among them. Negotiation is the predominant process for resolving conflicts. This paper presents a generic negotiation model for autonomous agents that handles multi-party, multi-issue and single or repeated rounds. The model is based on computationally tractable assumptions and accounts for a tight integration of the individual capability of planning and the social capability of negotiation. This paper also describes an experiment conducted to evaluate the model in different types of situations. The experimental results confirmed a number of well-documented conclusions about human

An Argumentation-Driven Model for Flexible and Efficient Persuasive Negotiation
The purpose of this paper is to propose a formal description and implementation of a negotiation protocol between autonomous agents using persuasive argumentation. This protocol is designed to be simple and computationally efficient. The computational efficiency is achieved by specifying the protocol as a set of simple logical rules that software agents can easily combine. These latter are spec...
متن کاملAn Argumentation-Driven Model for Autonomous and Secure Negotiation
The purpose of this paper is to propose a formal description of an argumentation-based negotiation protocol between autonomous agents. This protocol is designed to be secure and computationally efficient. The security is ensured by allowing agents to reason about trust. The computational efficiency is achieved by specifying the protocol as a set of simple logical rules that agents can easily co...
متن کاملA Computational Model For Online Agent Negotiation
Agent-based on-line negotiation technology has the potential ability to radically change the way ebusiness is conducted. In this paper, we present a formal model for autonomous agents to negotiate on the Internet. In the basic negotiation scenario, we validate our model by showing that an agent will never make an offer that can possibly be exploited by its opponents. In our model, the negotiati...
متن کاملNegotiation Among Groups of Autonomous Computational Agents
A negotiation mechanisms is presented for a real world problem of task distribution among a set of autonomous computational agents within a business process. The mechanism formally represents the protocol of agent interactions, the set of negotiation issues which agents negotiate over and the tactical and strategic reasoning procedures involved in negotiation decision making of an agent. Prelim...
متن کاملUsing similarity criteria to make issue trade-offs in automated negotiations
Automated negotiation is a key form of interaction in systems that are composed of multiple autonomous agents. The aim of such interactions is to reach agreements through an iterative process of making offers. The content of such proposals are, however, a function of the strategy of the agents. Here we present a strategy called the trade-off strategy where multiple negotiation decision variable...
